Subject: Southowram/Northowram Hebblethwaites #1

Message: I am trying to trace a Sarah Hebblethwaite born approx 1779 and died 19th October, 1855. She married a John Ambler on 9th February 1802.

Some years ago I had a letter from John Megson of Edinburgh who kindly gave me a copy of a will of a John Hebblethwaite of Hagstocks, Northowram and in that will are mentioned six children, William, John, Joseph, Sarah, Hannah Holt and Mary Stephenson. The will was written in 1799 so it would appear that Mary and Hannah had got married but Sarah had not. As I know that "my" Sarah was married in 1802 it does seem a possibility that she is the Sarah d. of John.

My chief concern is that it would appear that the children of this John (according to the IGI might have been born a bit earlier than required - indeed there is a Sara baptised 1764. However the IGI is by no means perfect although useful and there may be another Sarah not recorded there.

I am also interested in a separate family of Hebblethwaite who lived in Southowram in the 19th century. In particular a William Hebblethwaite who according to the 1851 census was born in Northowram in 1792. He became a farmer and married my 3 x great aunt Sarah Holt in 1813.

By the way my website is http://www.afamilyhistory.co.uk/index.htm - the links to Hebbelthwaite is not good yet but Sarah comes under the Wilson family and William comes under the Holt family. Would be interested to know if you have any links.

Charts from the above website can be found at the Pedigrees Charts and Information page.
